A Home Away from Home: New York Vibes

2025 started with a trip that felt like a warm hug—New York (well, technically Newark). I stayed at a friend’s place, and honestly, it was one of the most relaxing trips I’ve ever had. Everything about it felt like home. I met new people, made some amazing friends, and truly enjoyed myself.

We cooked home food together, explored the streets of New York, and spent hours playing board games – UNO, Exploding Kittens and of course Monopoly. One of the highlights? Helping plan a proposal for a friend in Central Park. It went perfectly, and being part of that moment made it so special.

It was funny, though, how time seemed to play tricks on us. At first, it just refused to pass—like, even after hours of doing things, the clock barely moved. And then, suddenly, it sped up, and before we knew it, the trip was over. But we didn’t just have fun; we created these cute little memories that I know I’ll cherish forever.

Every time I visit New York, I feel this spark. The vibe here is just… different. It’s a city full of energy and creativity. The diversity of people, the love for art, the way people dress up and carry themselves—it’s inspiring. Unlike other places where everyone seems to work in tech, here, people pursue all kinds of passions, and that’s refreshing. Of course, the Rent and Winters aren’t great, but I’d still love to experience this city for a few months someday. I truly believe New York brings out the creative side in me.

Food was a big part of this trip. We tried Malaysian food for the first time, and wow, it was incredible. I need to figure out how to make the sauce from the noodles I ordered – Malay Hokkien Mee—it too damn good. We also went to a ramen place, which was okay, but hey, trying sake after a really long time time was fun! And then there was a Bollywood dance party that turned out to be one of my favorite nights. Dancing with people I like, letting go—it was such a good time.

Speaking of dancing, I need to learn! Maybe I’ll pick up tap dancing again. It’s been a while, but who knows? Could be fun to join some classes and get back into it.

This trip wasn’t just about fun—it also made me reflect. The more I meet people and talk to them, the more I discover about myself. Little by little, I’m figuring out who I am and what i want. This year, I’ve decided to focus on depth—learning things properly, going beyond the surface, and leveling up in life. I think I’m the kind of person who likes to do things for people – it maybe small things like cooking them food, paying close attention to people and their needs, or more. I like to inspire people and bring out the best of them – in both good and bad ways. But always for their best. I guess that’s just me eh?

I know I’ve set a high bar for myself, and it’s time to take those baby steps to get there. Life’s not a sprint—it’s a marathon. 2025 feels like just the beginning, a stepping stone for the bigger journey ahead.

The year has started with a lot of positivity, and I’m feeling good about it. I’ve figured out a bit more about what (and who) makes me happy, and now it’s time to take that forward.

What about you? How has 2025 been for you so far? Any plans or goals you’re working on? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Let’s make this year count!
