The Essential Checklist – I

So, I was having a talk with a friend and we were discussing about our college days. We ended up talking about how energetic we were and how active we used to be at that age. Its true, we all had this rush of energy when we were in our early 20’s, our brain was capable of learning new things easily, picking up unusual skills and what not.

When I graduated from college, I had this vision in my mind that I am not going to let my creative side get tampered irrespective if whatever I do in life. Its been 2 years after graduation and I can uh, feel that creative decline – which I think, is just sad.

Which is why i decided, hey lets just do a retrospective and see how we are progressing with the things we really like and how its going. Sitting all day at home, binging TV shows, smoking up every eve, all these seems really nice but I guess they end up killing the energetic you – the creative you.

Here is a comprehensive list of the things that are important to me:

  • Workout
  • Good home-cooked food
  • Painting
  • Music
  • Chess

Lets keep the list a tad short and see how we are progressing with these things.

One thing that i noticed is, that I am really good with consistency. But, the catch being, I can only be consistent with a few things. Example: If i make up my mind that I WANT to workout every day, I WILL wake up early in the morning and will plan my events in a way that i end up getting my daily dose of workout – which is great, but kind of bad because I can only be consistent with a couple things a day 🙁

If i try to do everything everyday, it just takes a toll out of me. Which makes it tricky. Another thing that I have noticed is that, Life is not perfect. Not everyday is the same and there is a LOT of randomness that can happen from time to time. If you plan on doing, lets say, 1 hour of swimming after work every day, it might work for most of the days but it will not work when you have a rough day at work, or some day when you are not feeling at the top of your game, or some day when you are actually sick. The question that comes to my mind is, how do i make myself consistent with the randomness that comes in with every day?

I think i’m the kind of person who has sudden bursts of energy to do things. If i am able to make the best out of those sudden bursts, I think i will be able to nail it.

My schedule – well, sort of –

  • Wake up in the morning
  • Make the banana protein shake
  • Bag pack for the gym
  • Get ready – leave for bus
  • Workout
  • Drink Protein Shake
  • Come back home
  • Cook lunch for office
  • Clean bed and get ready
  • Pack office bag
  • Attend standup from home
  • Leave for office
  • Eat Protein Bar
  • Lunch
  • Drink Yogurt
  • Come back from office
  • Clean up house
  • Cook dinner
  • Smoke up
  • Eat dinner
  • Sleeeeep

The thing that I have been struggling is, including Music and Art into this one. And making sure that I am doing things right every day. I think with a bit of reorganizing, I can do a lot more cool things.

Will continue in next one.
