Beach or mountains? I’ve always wanted to try one of these daily prompts—it seems like a great way to start writing without overthinking what to write. No better time than now to give it a shot, right?
So, beach or mountains? Honestly, I think it’s a trick question. I’ve asked this to so many friends, and the answers are always fascinating. Personally, I used to consider myself a beach person—or maybe more of a “water person,” someone who enjoys being near water. But things have changed.
Three years ago, I moved from Texas to Washington, and I won’t lie—mountains have really grown on me. A lot has changed in these past three years. For one, I started painting, specifically landscapes, and I’ve gotten pretty good at it (if I say so myself). Living in Seattle seems to bring that creative energy out of people. It reminds me of my recent transformative experience at Mount Shasta, where the stunning natural surroundings left me deeply inspired.
On clear days, I can see Mount Rainier from my place, and the view is absolutely breathtaking. I’m not much of a hiker, but I’ve grown to love the mountains and the way they embody nature in its purest form. There’s something so humbling about looking at them—it reminds me how vast and incredible the world is. It makes me pause, appreciate life, and feel grateful for my existence.
What’s funny is that even though I’ve become more of a “mountain person,” I still live next to a lake, so I get my water fix too. I guess that’s my long-winded way of saying: mountains win for me, but water will always have a place in my heart.
Here’s a picture of Mount Rainier from near my place. Isn’t it stunning?
