What If We All Shared What We’re Great At?

Daily writing prompt
How would you improve your community?

Day 3 of Writing Daily Prompts
Dang, writing consistently is harder than it looks—it’s definitely going to take some practice. But hey, here we go. Showing up is step one, right?

When I think about improving my community, the first things that come to mind are people and education. Coming from a middle-class background, I know firsthand how powerful education can be – it opened doors for me, gave me purpose, and helped me grow into who I am today. It wasn’t just about textbooks or degrees; it was about learning how to think, solve problems, and build a life. I do enjoy problem solving. Its something I am good at.

One of the most meaningful things I’ve done was mentoring someone who wanted to get into software. He had no clue where to start, but he was eager to learn. We began with the basics, built up slowly, worked on his first project, and eventually he was applying for jobs. When he got his first offer, it felt like both of us had won. That moment made me realize: helping someone grow is one of the best ways to give back.

But here’s what I see in many communities: people are sitting on so much knowledge, skills, and experience—but they don’t always know how or where to share it. At the same time, there are others who are hungry to learn, connect, and improve themselves. What if we could bridge that gap?

Everyone is good at some things and great at some other things. What if people could share what they are great at with others? It will not only help people learn new things but will also make that connection between people and make them come together as a group.

If I had the chance, I’d start something simple: a weekly skill-sharing meetup. A space where anyone could come and teach something they’re great at – coding, cooking, public speaking, budgeting, anything. And anyone could come to learn. Over time, it wouldn’t just be about the skills. It would be about people getting to know each other, making friends, finding mentors, and building real bonds.

To me, a better community is one where people are excited to share, excited to learn, and excited to help each other grow. It doesn’t take a lot—just a bit of time, some trust, and the belief that everyone has something valuable to give!

What do you think of it? Feel free to drop your thoughts in the comments!
